IMAGES THAT BIND

WEAK-WILLED
DOMINANT INTELLECT

Part 2 of 2

Part 1 of this article outlined the weak-willed intellectual Christian woman’s:

  • desire for what others have;
  • failure to make others’ images work in her life; and
  • lack of discernment because of the ruling intellect.

“I am so tired of trying so hard.”

When Jesus spoke these words, He was speaking to you:

Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy laden,
and I will give you rest.
~Matthew 11:28

God is not asking you to “put on” another man’s image because it is simply too heavy, like Saul’s armor was for the young man David. Saul’s armor bound David, like death clothes. But Christ’s load is light. Jesus is calling you to follow Him. He will not yoke you with a heavy image; rather, He will yoke you with Himself.

For my yoke is easy and my load is light.
~Matthew 11:28

When you yoke with Him, you will learn from Him
and you will find rest for your soul.

Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me,
for I am gentle and humble in heart;
and you shall find rest for your souls.
~Matthew 11:29

REMOVE THE DEATH CLOTHES THAT BIND;
PUT ON THE NEW MAN.

Like David removed Saul’s armor, remove the “armor of another man or woman” that binds you so you can be freed to follow God in the Spirit for your particular relationships and circumstances.

Put on the full armor of God
—truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, the sword of the Spirit—
not man’s image.

Instead of setting your hopes and dreams upon someone else’s definition of the perfect Christian life, dwell in the reality of your own personal circumstances and relationships—ordained by the God Who loves you because He wants to grow you as an individual, not as a clone of another.

His Church is a Body—a body that needs its various unique and individual parts to function fully under the direction of the Head, Who is Christ.

It is through dwelling in the reality of your current relationships and circumstances that God will speak to you. But if you are too busy hearing from another and following him or her, trying to change others to fit your new-found image, you miss this vital step of your Christian walk: learning to hearken to the Lord.

God uses relationships and circumstances
to speak to you.

As you learn to recognize His Voice and obey Him in your personal conduct—rather than move forward in someone else’s idealism for your life—He will change YOU! You won’t have to change those around you to fit your image because your soul will be at rest when you yoke with Christ in the Spirit.

“Why won’t another’s image change my life?”

When you “put on” an image of man by practicing their idealism, you miss developing a relationship with God because you have eliminated the process of growth from your life. You simply try to put on someone else’s life, like a straitjacket which binds you. The only One through Whom you can receive “real Life in abundance” is Christ through His Spirit.

And we…are being transformed into his likeness
with ever-increasing glory,
which comes from the Lord,
who is the Spirit.
~2 Corinthians 3:18

You say you want to grow, but yet you are trying to change others and yourself externally by putting on an image. Instead, let God change YOU from the inside out! God has placed those relationships and circumstances around you that will help you to learn to hear from Him and grow into the likeness of Christ.

You turn to man and accept his images because, instead of growing, you’d rather have the perfect life—perfect according to someone else’s definition, someone who claims to know a better way than you are currently living.

A MORE EXCELLENT WAY!

I show you a more excellent way.
~1 Corinthians 12:31

God has given us a more excellent way—
a way which does not involve an image.

LOVE

Be released to His love for you as you grow into Christ, your Source or Head for love and abundant life.

Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy laden,
and I will give you rest.
~Matthew 11:28
