Holding Your Child’s Heart
(This article)

I LOVE YOU, MY CHILD ~ HE LOVES YOU, HIS CHILD

Developing good parenting skills begins with relationship. Your personal relationship with the Lord of your life fills you with His love, which overflows to the lives of your children.

The simple fact that a mom desires to hold her children's hearts is evidence that God is working in mom's heart. Praise Him!

When I was parenting my young children and learning how to hold their hearts, I discovered that my desire to hold my children's hearts was God's call to me, asking me to let Him hold my heart.

Do you know that God loves you? If you struggle believing that God loves you, take a look at the Levitical sacrifices.

As you learn to hold your children’s hearts, you will tap into the heart of God’s love for you and develop good parenting skills. What an exciting journey!

The first step to holding your children's hearts is learning
how God holds yours.

He laid down his life for you to gain your heart of love for Him. As you lay down your life for your children, you will gain their hearts.

Then you can parent your children in the same manner that God parents you: with lovingkindess, grace, patience, and unconditional love.

Book Recommendation

Belinda Letchford eloquently captures this principle of holding a child’s heart in a delightfully readable magazine-style format.

I highly recommend her excellent ebook, Heart Focus Parenting, for sale on this page of her website

Heart Focus Parenting

Capturing and then holding your children's hearts includes developing deep relationship with them:

  • not pushing but
    leading by the Spirit;

  • not giving them guilt trips but
    encouraging their strengths first;

  • not speaking in anger but
    speaking vision and purpose into their lives;

  • not focusing on academics but
    using desktime/chore time/free time as a platform for developing their character.

Develop good parenting skills while capturing your children's hearts:

love them unconditionally,

listen to their hearts, and

repent humbly before them.

Learning from the Lord how to hold your child’s heart opens a door for God to perfect/mature your heart in love.

Let Him use all the fumbling around that you feel you do, all the mistakes you feel you make, to perfect/mature your own heart in love so you can learn how to

Hold Your Children’s Hearts
Because Your Father Hold Yours!!

Just as the Father has loved Me,
I have also loved you.
